Behold Your Mother

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. — John 19:25-27.

We find Jesus’ mother, her sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene at the foot of the cross. John, “the disciple whom He loved”, is also present with them. When Jesus sees His mother and the disciple, He asks them to take care of each other by regarding each other as mother and son. From then on that disciple take her to his own home.

Jesus shows loving concern for others even while He is agonizing and dying on the cross.
