Israel is Divided over Christ

Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.” 41 Others said, “This is the Christ.”

But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” 43 So there was a division among the people because of Him. 44 Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him. – John 7:40-44.

Opinions are divided as to the identity of Jesus Christ. Many ignorantly say that if Jesus really is the Christ, He would have come from Bethlehem! They seem ignorant of the fact that Bethlehem is the birthplace of Jesus! Yet again, those wanting to take Him are unable to do so.

Jesus publicly offers (a) living water to those who comes to Him, and (b) perpetual spiritual satisfaction to those who put their trust in Him (cf. John 7:37, 38).

After this offer, the people respond in the usual way. Some think that Jesus is the prophet that Moses spoke about who was to come. Some recognize Jesus to be the Christ. But some find yet another reason to reject him. So they try to arrest him. When the officers go to arrest Jesus, they realized something very important…
