But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, “Where is He?” 12 And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, “He is good”; others said, “No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.” 13 However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews. — John 7:10-13.
After His brothers depart for Jerusalem, Jesus also goes to the feast, but not with the fanfare that his brothers had suggested. He goes privately. He does not reveal Himself. Why? The whole city is looking for Jesus. Apparently the whole discussion in the city is about Jesus. People are looking for Jesus and they are talking about Jesus. Some think He is a good man. Others think He is leading the people astray. Few see Jesus for who He truly is. No one openly commends Him because they fear the Jewish authorities.
We have the same situation today. Some think Jesus is a good man and others reject Him. Few are willing to be vocal about Jesus today for fear of what people will say and think.
