9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.” – Matthew 28:9-10.
Emotionally mixed between fear and great joy, they run to tell the disciples and are met by Jesus, whose opening comment is ‘Rejoice!’ They hold Him and worship Him. He repeats the angels’ instructions not to fear, to go to the disciples, and to tell them that He will meet them in Galilee.
Rejoice! (v.9) – As the women hurry to convey the angel’s message to the disciples, Jesus meets them halfway, saying, “Rejoice!”
And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. They fall prostrate at His feet in worship, reverence and humility. They are now eyewitnesses of the resurrected Jesus.
Do not be afraid. (v.10) — Jesus reassures them.
Go and tell My brethren – Even though they had deserted Him, Jesus does not hold it against them but calls them “My brethren”.
“they will see Me” – Tell them to go to Galilee. They will see Me there.
Christ himself appears after His resurrection, and sending the women to his disciples, shows that he has not forgotten them.
