Jesus Announces His Death and Resurrection a Third Time

17 Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, 19 and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” – Matthew 20:17-19.

Third and fuller prediction of Jesus sufferings, death, and resurrection. Jesus tells his twelve disciples, before they get into Jerusalem, that there He will be betrayed, condemned, delivered up, mocked, scourged, and crucified. He also tells them that on ‘the third day He will rise again.’ Thus the Christ prepared the apostles for the coming time of trial and ultimate triumph, after they had shown fuller faith in his Deity.

  1. Love the verses in Scripture, Old and New, that speaks of “going up to Jerusalem”. I learned while in Israel, no matter where you are located in the land, one always “goes up to Jerusalem”. I think this could be said of our position, no matter where we are, or beginner our journey, Jesus always ” lifts us up”!! Blessings for a wonderful day in Him Who loves you!! Thank you for sharing His Word! Getting ready to “go up!”:)
