Perilous Times and Perilous Men

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! — 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Almost two thousand years ago, God spoke through the apostle Paul to warn the young evangelist Timothy about the coming perilous times in the last days.

We live in the last days [ushered in after our Lord’s ascension to heaven]. When we consider the current general attitudes and ways of people, the evidence is overwhelming! The way of God (being spiritual and holy) is considered unprofitable and boring.

However, followers of Christ Jesus are exhorted to turn away from such people! We are not to lose heart but remain faithful to Whom we belong; the One Who loves us and calls us His own.

The Apostle John says it this way —

“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.” — 1 John 3:1.
