If My People Seek My Face

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Another gem of a promise from God! As His people, He wants us to humble ourselves before Him and seek Him. He desires that we leave our wicked ways behind us. He promises to hear us and forgive our sin and heal us.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. – James 4:8-10.

We are urged to draw near to God so that He may draw near to us. He will not force Himself upon us. We should have the desire to draw near to Him and earnestly seek His face. We have to decide. When we do that, He draws near to us. However, in order for us to draw near to God, we need to cleanse ourselves from our wicked ways and purify our hearts. We have to truly repent. “Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.” We are called upon to sincerely humble ourselves in the Lord’s sight in order to enable Him to lift us up.

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. ~ Psalm 30:5.
